Lydia Gyurina

Lydia Gyurina (b. 1998, Amherst, NH) is a New Hampshire-based artist whose work explores abstraction through vibrant color, organic forms, and intuitive mark-making.

Working primarily in oil pastel and colored pencil, she creates small-scale drawings that fully saturate the page with harmonious color fields, with compositions ranging from bold and simple to more illustrative. Lydia works quickly and intuitively, often with minimal sketching, blending with her fingers and intentionally dirty pastel sticks to give her drawings an organic, lived-in quality.

Her imagery ranges from simple geometric forms to organic motifs such as eggs, teardrops, flowers, clouds, and rainbows, often evoking humor, opaque symbolism, and unexpected narratives. Interested in art as a portal to the mind and in finding beauty within the imperfect, Lydia holds a B.F.A. in Kinetic Imaging from Virginia Commonwealth University Honors College, where she explored animation, video, sound, photography, and experimental self-portraiture before expanding her practice to include the intimate abstract drawings she creates today.

Lydia’s artwork was featured in ‘Hi Neighbor!‘ on view August 8-30, 2026.
