Justice McDaniel

Justice McDaniel (b. 1989, Justice Eats Trees) is a Boston-based artist, musician, designer, and excitable puppy of a person. He works in mixed media, incorporating elements of primitivism, surrealism, cartoon, and expressionism into paintings, drawings, 3D-printed works, proto-sculptures, and other cobbled together nonsense he insists upon making. In less than 33 human years, he has created well over 500 songs both in his family band Zanois and as a solo musical artist, many of which were part of his daily song project Groove of the Day. He now spends a lot of time painting and taking photos that look like fever dreams in the woods. Justice loves cats, manages a co-working space, has several science degrees, and once drank a gallon of Tampico in a day.

Justice’s artwork artwork was featured in ‘Tout Le Monde’ on view August 9-31, 2025.

“Both of these pieces explore the relationship between basic (if a little weird) life and celestial objects – in the form of caring for and protecting a small star in the case of the Starsupial, or curiosity about something found in the photograph – and the challenges in compatibility and understanding that come with things that exist of a different time and energy scale than us mortal beings.”

Justice’s artwork was featured in ‘Presently‘ on view December 14-22, 2024.

“Fresco is – at least in my estimation – an ancient and often almost holy medium in which religious and mystical wonders are rendered into a wall or ceiling for beauty and posterity… but what if it was on recycled jorts?”

Justice’s artwork was featured in ‘Glad You Asked,’ on view March 11-26, 2023.

“This piece- made using only markers- is for those frustrated with the mundanity of screaming, swirling voids opening in their chill places.”
